Ramon Sosamontes Herreramoro, former head of social communication of the then Ministry of Social Development (Sedesol), will continue to be linked to the process for his participation in the case known as the 'Master Scam'. The Second Collegiate Court of Appeals confirmed the measure established by a judge in 2023 who accuses him of misuse of powers and authority. Sosamontes was one of the closest collaborators of Rosario Robles, former head of the same ministry.
The investigation by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) revealed that in 2014, Sosamontes simulated contracts with governmental institutions from some states and universities for services that were not performed, causing millions in losses. Specifically, he improperly contracted and used public resources for the services of Radio and Television of Hidalgo for an amount exceeding 353 million pesos, without the services being carried out.
The judges of the Collegiate Court established that the evidence presented by the FGR in the initial hearing is sufficient to support the existence of the crime and the probable guilt of Sosamontes. Furthermore, as he could not justify with evidence that the former official did not commit any irregularities, his linkage to the process for the crime of misuse of powers and authority was confirmed.
Despite this decision, the precautionary measure that prevented Sosamontes from leaving Mexico was revoked, arguing that he did not represent a risk to the process if he requested authorization to do so. It was indicated that if he failed to comply with such authorization, the FGR could request the necessary changes.
In addition, it was mentioned that Sosamontes faces a second process for the diversion of more than 203 million pesos through illegal contracts with Radio and Television of Hidalgo during the management of Rosario Robles Berlanga as head of Sedesol.
