Escalation of Criminal Activity in Mexico

In recent days, information emerged that Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of "Los Chapitos", had managed to evade Mexican authorities through a tunnel. However, the Secretary of Citizen Security, Omar García Harfuch, clarified that the operation targeted two individuals who were not the son of 'El Chapo' Guzmán.

García Harfuch detailed that the recent actions against the criminal cell to which Iván Archivaldo Guzmán belongs were led by Sedena and the Mexican Army. In his words, "The agreement must be closed", referring to a possible collaboration with other countries, and mentioned the importance of reciprocity in tariffs.

On the other hand, Mexican authorities have addressed the issue of the detention of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, where Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero indicated that his repatriation has been requested, without a response to date. Legal actions have been undertaken against 'El Mayo' for crimes of kidnapping and transporting a person against their will.

During the press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum presented a report on the municipalities with the highest number of intentional homicides in February of the current year. She highlighted a 28.7% decrease in intentional homicides from 2018 to February 2025.

On another topic, it was reported that since October 2024, a considerable amount of fentanyl has been seized by the Mexican Government. Omar García Harfuch detailed these seizures, and other actions against organized crime were also mentioned, such as the 'Operation North Border' which resulted in arrests and the seizure of firearms.

Finally, regarding flights from the United States detected in Mexican territory, Sheinbaum mentioned that the information shared between both countries contributes to arrests but emphasized that the planning and execution of operations are the responsibility of each nation, reaffirming the privacy of the data provided within the framework of national security.
