Internal Tensions in Morena over Appointment at the INE

Tensions in Congress among Morena's allies have intensified with a new dispute between the coordinator in San Lázaro, Ricardo Monreal, and the Purists of the party. This conflict revolves around the election of a representative to occupy a seat in the National Electoral Institute (INE) before the judicial and municipal elections in Durango and Veracruz.

According to sources from the Chamber of Deputies, initially Guillermo Santiago from Chiapas had consensus for the position in the INE. However, Monreal seeks to impose Ernesto Prieto from Guanajuato, leveraging his influence in San Lázaro, where he has managed to appoint the president of the Chamber.

Santiago, backed by the president of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde, and the secretary of Women of the federal government, Citlalli Hernández, has strong support from the Purists within the party. This confrontation reflects historical tensions between the sectors of the party, with the Purists criticizing the Monreal family for their PRI past and their alleged role in previous elections.

The designation in the INE holds special relevance ahead of the upcoming elections, especially those of the Judicial Power, in Durango and Veracruz. The position in dispute could have a significant impact on these electoral processes. This internal struggle between the sectors of Morena has generated a new phase of tensions in the Chamber of Deputies, highlighting deep divisions within the party.
