The Secretariat of State Security of Mexico (SSEM) captured two individuals allegedly involved in an extortion act in Los Matorrales. The apprehension took place after a citizen report to 911 indicated that six armed men in two vehicles, a red Nissan Estaquitas truck and a white Chevrolet Aveo with taxi markings, demanded 20,000 pesos from a merchant to allow him to continue his work.
Thanks to the Control, Command, Communication, Computing and Quality Center (C5) of the SSEM, actions were initiated to locate the identified vehicles and alert personnel in the field. The agents contacted the victim, who provided information about the suspects and the involved vehicles.
Through an operation in the area, authorities managed to locate the Nissan Estaquitas truck with two individuals inside. After a routine inspection, the victim identified the two detainees as responsible for the extortion. The arrested individuals were identified as Carlos “N” aged 31 and Francisco “N” aged 23.
After being notified of their legal rights, both individuals were transferred to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico in Zinacantepec to determine their legal situation. According to a statement issued by the SSEM, early investigations suggest they may have links to a criminal group based in Michoacán.
