According to a national survey conducted by El Financiero from February 20 to 24 among 400 people, 56% of Mexicans support the reform of the Judicial Branch. This is the first time a majority of support has been reached since the reform was approved last year. Previously, support varied between 43% and 48% from July to October 2024.
The survey also reveals that 63% of respondents support the election of judges and magistrates, the highest figure since January 2024. However, despite the majority support, 55% of surveyed Mexicans feel that they are poorly or not at all informed about these elections scheduled for the first Sunday in June of this year. On the other hand, interest in voting in these elections fell from 66% to 52% between January and February.
Regarding the evaluation of the process to select candidates for the judicial election, the survey shows that 60% rated the selection of names for candidacies positively, 57% regarding the organization of the elections, 54% concerning the integrity and transparency of the process, and 50% on the use of a lottery to select candidates. Despite some differences, all these processes receive a positive rating in greater proportion than the negative evaluations, which range from 31% to 38%.
Despite the majority support, the survey indicated that interest in the judicial electoral process has decreased. The methodology employed consisted of a national telephone survey of 800 adult Mexicans from February 13 to 17 and from February 20 to 24, 2025, with a margin of error of +/-3.5% and a confidence level of 95%.
