Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico, expressed solidarity with the country in the face of tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. In response to this situation, Sheinbaum committed to joining forces with other countries, such as Canada, to address the taxes imposed by the U.S. president.
In response, the leader stated that Mexico is a strong and resilient country, and there will be no submission to these measures. Additionally, she called for patience in waiting for a possible suspension of the tariffs, following statements from U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
The tariffs imposed by the United States on Mexico and Canada came into effect on March 4, although the duration of these measures is uncertain due to the possibility of a truce in the trade war. An announcement is expected from Lutnick to lift the tariffs on the main partners of the U.S.
In this context, Sheinbaum left open the possibility of seeking new trade allies if necessary, with the aim of protecting Mexico and reducing its dependence on the United States. The president reminded that Mexico has a solid economy and that necessary measures will be taken to face tariff threats.
Additionally, Sheinbaum reported that a phone conversation with President Donald Trump is scheduled for Thursday, March 6.
