The reform of the local Judiciary in the state will not be ready before March 14, the deadline set by the federal reform for harmonization in local congresses, reported the president of the Board of Directors of the LXI Local Legislature, Andrea Tovar Saavedra.
The president detailed that this is due to the fact that on February 24, some members of the Morena bench submitted a new proposal, which implies restarting the process since it involves a constitutional reform that requires notification and participation from the municipalities. Tovar Saavedra mentioned: "We had already made progress, notifications had been made to the municipalities, two forums had been held, but on February 24 my colleagues presented another constitutional reform, and that delays the process."
The deputies of Morena, Labor Party, and Green Party presented a constitutional reform on January 8, initiating the work and review in joint committees. However, a new proposal subsequently presented by other deputies implied restarting the process. Tovar Saavedra expressed her dismay at this situation and pointed out that the new proposal was not discussed with the bench.
Although the president acknowledged that not meeting the established deadline would be considered disobedience, she mentioned that there are no specific sanctions and that this would not be exclusive to her entity. It is expected that the reform may be approved in March, as long as no new proposal arises that would obligate restarting the process. Regarding the scheduled forums, it is still unclear whether there is a need to repeat them, but it was emphasized that there will be no rush for approval without adequately measuring the implications.
The third planned forum was intended to include the participation of bars and law schools, although its realization is uncertain again due to these changes in the reform process of the Judiciary.
