Master Edgar Amador Zamora has been appointed as the new Secretary of Finance and Public Credit in Mexico, replacing Rogelio Ramírez de la O. This change in the country's economic leadership comes at a crucial time, as the United States government is expected to announce new tariffs on Mexican and Canadian products on April 2 as part of a reciprocal tariff policy driven by President Donald Trump.

Rogelio Ramírez de la O submitted his resignation after more than three years in office, highlighting that despite some moderation in economic growth, long-term prospects remain positive. For his part, Amador Zamora emphasized that Mexico has strong fiscal and financial buffers to face economic challenges, including international reserves of 234 billion dollars and international credit lines of 44 billion dollars.

President Claudia Sheinbaum indicated that starting April 2, Mexico, Canada, and China will be evaluated regarding tariff issues, ruling out the possibility of Mexico being punished with tariffs, as the country has not imposed tariffs on U.S. products. Regarding negotiations with Trump, Sheinbaum explained that they focused on security arguments, such as the reduction of fentanyl trafficking from Mexico to the U.S.

Edgar Amador, prior to his appointment as Secretary of Finance, dismissed the risk of recession in Mexico due to the tariffs, stressing that economic variables remain stable. During his participation in an event, the economist rejected the possibility of volatility due to U.S. tariff threats and expressed confidence that Mexico can manage the present economic challenges.
