The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has announced a series of measures in support of women in the country. Firstly, she will inaugurate the Women in History room at the National Palace this Saturday, March 8. Additionally, she will begin the distribution of millions of booklets containing 15 rights of women in different areas of life.
Sheinbaum also informed about the creation of the National Network of Weavers of the Homeland, a group of volunteer women who will work on promoting women's rights. The government will build 200 education and childcare centers for working mothers, aiming to provide them with support in caring for their children while they work.
On the other hand, there will be a permanent recognition of women from indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, women will be prioritized as owners in the housing program, and agrarian rights will be recognized for at least 150,000 women. Forums and consultations will also be held throughout the country to determine actions and possible constitutional reforms that help prevent violence and femicides.
Furthermore, Sheinbaum announced the launch of the Women Wellbeing Pension, a program for women aged 60 to 64 who still cannot access other pensions. Registration for this program will be done in phases, starting from the upcoming August 1 for women aged 60 to 63, aiming for all women aged 60 to 64 to receive their pension by the end of the year.
Among the additional measures that Sheinbaum's government will implement in favor of women is the establishment of 24 new commemorative dates that recognize the contribution of women to the history and construction of Mexico.
