Alejandro Gertz Manero, Attorney General of the Republic, during the morning press conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that the case of the clandestine graves found in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, will be thoroughly investigated. The Attorney General mentioned the importance of analyzing the situation, as it is not understood how such a situation could have gone unnoticed by local authorities.
"What we are going to do is establish a whole line of investigation into the history of this case; that is to say, it is not possible that a situation of that nature has not been known by the local authorities of that municipality and the state," emphasized Gertz Manero. He stressed the need to clarify the background and seriousness of the case before the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) takes over the investigation.
The Attorney General expressed that a thorough investigation of local authorities will be carried out before deciding to take over the case. He highlighted the obligation of local authorities to control crimes in their respective jurisdictions and underscored the importance of getting to the bottom of the matter, such as the reason for the presence of so many pairs of shoes and clothing at the site.
In another related topic, Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, was questioned about the recruitment that the CJNG carries out via social media, especially on TikTok profiles. Harfuch reported that the cyber police are investigating 12 profiles on TikTok that send messages to young people in Jalisco promoting a lifestyle linked to crime.
Regarding what happened in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, the collective "Searchers of Jalisco" reported the discovery of three crematory ovens used by organized crime to dispose of bodies in La Estanzuela, Teuchitlán. Previously, Rancho Izaguirre had been intervened twice in the last five months due to its use by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as a clandestine training center.
The Jalisco Attorney's Office will conduct a thorough review of possible omissions in the handling of this case. Despite previous operations, the CJNG continued operating in the area. This situation, which has raised great concern, has forced authorities to investigate thoroughly and clarify the details to take appropriate measures.
