Judicial Election Speculations Heat Up in Mexico

In a distant fifth place, with 4% support, is Loretta Ortiz, the third acting minister participating in the judicial election. The leadership of 4T is already showing the first bets, and according to sources, different groups are starting to position themselves for their favorites, as mentioned by President Claudia Sheinbaum during a rally in the Zócalo. In the National Palace, legal advisor Ernestina Godoy is close to Ortiz.

On the other hand, Ricardo Monreal, leader of Morena in Mexico City, along with governors Delfina Gómez from the State of Mexico, Margarita González from Morelos, and Clara Brugada from Mexico City, express their appreciation for Ortiz. However, Ortiz does not have the support of retired minister Arturo Zaldívar, who sees her in conflict with essential figures for the proper functioning of the Judiciary.

The dispute between Zaldívar and Ortiz dates back to previous cases in their judicial careers, involving lawyer José Agustín Ortiz Pinchetti. Currently, attention is focused on two women as possible future presidents of the Supreme Court following Morena's reforms. One of them is Lenia Batres, who was recently excluded from resolving a case involving Ricardo Salinas Pliego and the Financial Intelligence Unit.

It has been revealed that Yasmín Esquivel is the best-positioned minister according to a poll that places her with 15% preferences among respondents, followed by Lenia Batres with 12%. Batres has the support of sectors of Morena, including her own family, while Esquivel has received backing from various unions and cultural sectors aligned with 4T.

Esquivel, seen as the candidate with some legal impartiality, has the backing of key figures like Zaldívar. Her interaction with unions and support from Grupo Riobóo have positioned her as a strong contender in the race for the Presidency of the Court, which will be decided next June.
