Claudia Sheinbaum Comments on USS Gravely Deployment

President Claudia Sheinbaum reacted this Tuesday during the morning conference from the National Palace to the announcement of the deployment by the United States of its destroyer USS Gravely to the Gulf of Mexico to assist in territorial protection efforts. Confirmed by the Pentagon spokesman, it was reported that the Gravely will be conducting operations in national and international waters. In response to a question about this military deployment, Sheinbaum assured that Mexico was notified and that it does not constitute a violation of national sovereignty, as the ship is in international waters.

This week it was revealed that Northern Command has deployed the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Gravely in the Northcom area of operations since March 15, with the purpose of contributing to border security operations, as announced by the Pentagon.

In the words of Sean Parnell, chief Pentagon spokesman, "The USS Gravely departed from the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia, for a scheduled deployment in the Gulf of Mexico." Additionally, General Alexus G. Grynkewich, director of operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, indicated that the ship will participate in drug interception missions and other objects directed at the country, in collaboration with the United States Coast Guard.

Grynkewich emphasized, "It is equally important to control our territorial waters, and this deployment directly supports the United States in its efforts to protect its sovereignty."
