In a report by Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity, it was revealed that Hugo Buentello Carbonell, former deputy director of operations at Liconsa during the previous administration, was detained for his possible involvement in a corruption case at Segalmex. The detention took place on April 11, as confirmed by MCCI. It is presumed that Buentello Carbonell was arrested outside the United States embassy in Mexico.
He was described in the arrest record as a man 1.80 meters tall, of medium build, with gray hair, fair complexion, large nose, and bushy eyebrows. Documents obtained by MCCI indicated that the Attorney General's Office was conducting an investigation into Buentello Carbonell's alleged participation in organized crime related to Liconsa contracts for the acquisition of milk that was never delivered.
From September 2019 to March 2021, Buentello Carbonell held the position of deputy director of operations at Liconsa, a subsidiary of Segalmex responsible for the distribution of milk in Mexico. From this position, he signed contracts that have been questioned for alleged irregularities. For example, his agreements with ILAS Mexico and Grupo Vicente Suárez have come under scrutiny. The Superior Audit Office of the Federation found irregularities in the contract with Grupo Vicente Suárez, emphasizing that the agreed-upon milk bags were not delivered.
The Attorney General's Office initiated an investigation into the contract in question, which involved Grupo Vicente Suárez 73, as part of the corruption cases in Segalmex. In addition to Buentello Carbonell, others involved in the contract have been arrested. They are accused of organized crime and operations with resources of illicit origin. Ren é Gavira, a former director of Administration at Segalmex, has also been captured in connection with this matter.
Additionally, Buentello Carbonell's alleged connection with the son of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been mentioned concerning contracts in the Ministry of Territorial and Urban Development and works on the Malecón in Villahermosa. In a letter, the López Beltrán brothers denied knowing Buentello Carbonell and rejected the accusations against him. MCCI revealed connections between Buentello and Alejandro Castro Jiménez Labora, the supervisor of the project in question. In summary, the accusations and arrests surrounding the corruption case at Segalmex continue to generate repercussions.
