Narcoblockades in Michoacán: President addresses security issues

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo addressed in her morning conference this Thursday the narcoblockades that occurred on several highways in Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Jalisco the previous day. Fires of trucks and traffic obstruction were reported due to the presence of alleged organized crime groups. The State Secretary of Public Security and other authorities carried out operations to tackle these blockades.

Regarding the events, the Secretary of Public Security stated: "Agents from the Secretary of Public Security (SSP), the National Defense, and the National Guard deployed various operational actions at different points in the state to address highway blockades caused by criminal groups." After meeting with the Security Cabinet, Sheinbaum affirmed that investigations are being conducted and no arrests were made, describing the conflict as a dispute between two groups.

For his part, Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, detailed that violent events were recorded in several municipalities of Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Jalisco, resulting in vehicle fires, attacks on stores, blockades, and assaults on authorities. Actions were implemented to restore order in the affected areas, reinforcing the presence of security personnel and securing explosive devices. Harfuch assured that those responsible will be arrested and will face legal consequences.
