Controversy Surrounds IMSS Delegation in Tamaulipas

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported that the powers of the Decentralized Administrative Operating Body (OOAD) will be transferred, appointing Brigadier General Flavio Alejandro Perea Alcaraz as the head of the Tamaulipas delegation. This decision was made after a complaint was filed with the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to investigate events that occurred in April.

Regarding the detention of Dr. José Luis Aranza Aguilar, head of the OOAD of Tamaulipas, the IMSS questions the legality of his arrest, highlighting the existence of contradictory accounts regarding what happened. "On April 28, 2025, the corresponding complaint was filed with the FGR for the detention carried out on April 22," the institution stated, aiming to clarify the facts and determine responsibilities.

The situation involving Aranza has caused confrontations between the authorities of Tamaulipas and the IMSS, particularly between the director of the Institute, Zoe Robledo, and Governor Américo Villarreal. The Secretary of Security of Tamaulipas, Sergio Chávez, claimed that a weapon and 298,000 pesos in cash were seized from the federal official, details that have been questioned by various sources.

Robledo has supported his colleague's version, denying that he was carrying the allegedly confiscated items, and calling for an investigation to determine if Aranza Aguilar's detention was motivated by alleged corruption that led to the dismissal of nine officials, including the IMSS delegate in Reynosa. There is speculation that the detention may have been an illegal deprivation of liberty or an abuse of authority, as it did not occur in the commission of a crime or under an arrest warrant.
