Teuchitlán Mayor Will Face Organized Crime Charges

The Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR) of Mexico has arrested and issued preventive detention against José Ascensión Murguía Santiago, alias 'N', who is the mayor of Teuchitlán, for his alleged involvement in criminal activities related to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) at the Izaguirre ranch.

Murguía Santiago faces charges for organized crime detrimental to the community, which are directly related to that ranch. During his initial hearing this Sunday, he was accused of participating in operations of recruitment, exploitation, and forced training, as well as being involved in enforced disappearances of individuals.

According to reports from 'Milenio', several victims pointed to the mayor as a key recruiter directing people to the ranch, where they were forced to train for the CJNG or face fatal consequences. The investigation by the Attorney General's Office suggests that Murguía Santiago was aware of and allowed the cartel's operations at the site, receiving in return a monthly sum of 70,000 Mexican pesos, approximately 3,151 euros.

In addition to the previous charges, he is accused of providing surveillance to prevent escapes and facilitating the CJNG's use of police vehicles in their illegal activities.
