Political Turmoil in Teuchitlán: Mayor Detained

The mayor of Teuchitlán, José Ascensión Murguía, is detained in the Sentenced Police Station of the Puente prison complex, and it is expected that on Saturday a decision will be made on whether or not he will be linked to the process. The Federal Public Ministry has presented charges against him for organized crime to the detriment of the community, in addition to charging 70,000 pesos monthly to favor the CJNG and providing municipal police to prevent the escape of recruits from the training camp in Teuchitlán.

José Ascensión Murguía Santiago will remain in preventive detention, as the arrest warrant against him was issued more than a month ago. The commissioner of Teuchitlán, Rigoberto González, did not show up for work and his subordinates indicated that he is absent for academic reasons.

José Ascensión Murguía Santiago has been the mayor of Teuchitlán since 2021 and is accused of having links with the CJNG and its leader, 'El Mencho'. Despite the accusations against him, Murguía has denied any criminal relationship and is confident in the ongoing investigations. Additionally, he is a dentist by profession and had previously served as the municipal president of Teuchitlán from 2012 to 2015.

Following Murguía's detention, the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) party of Jalisco has demanded a fair investigation free of political overtones. The party trusts that the mayor will demonstrate that he acted within the law and defends his right to the presumption of innocence. MC also emphasizes the importance of justice to restore peace and tranquility in society, considering that the facts related to Rancho Izaguirre have shocked the community.
