A young man tragically died after being run over by the van in which Esteban Ramírez Zepeta, the state leader of Morena in Veracruz, was traveling, while he was part of a convoy for a party rally in the south of the state. The incident took place in the community of Los Juanes, in the municipality of Uxpanapa, during a campaign event for the Morena-PVEM candidate, Elsa Cobos.
The vehicle that hit the young man was part of a caravan consisting of at least four vans that transported various members of the political party, as well as members of the National Guard and security bodies. The young man's body remained on the dirt road and he died at the scene of the accident.
Witnesses stated that none of the vans stopped after the crash, although some indicated that one of them did stop, but the rest continued on their way. People who claim that one van stopped said that the vehicle's license plates were removed at the scene.
After the tragic death was confirmed, Morena reported that the driver was made available to the authorities. Gabriel Zúñiga Obando, a representative of Morena before the National Electoral Institute and the Local Public Electoral Organization, expressed his condolences about the events and stated that the driver of the vehicle, in which the party leader was also traveling, cooperated with the authorities at all times.
"Currently, he is available to the competent authorities for the determination of responsibilities," Zúñiga stated. Additionally, he highlighted that Morena contacted the family of the deceased to offer them the necessary support and accompaniment.
