According to the files, this is a rite of initiation for the criminal group. Authorities accuse José Ascensión Murguía, mayor of Teuchitlán, of the disappearances in Izaguirre. He is described as the presumed material and direct author of the events recorded at the Izaguirre Ranch, linking him with José Gregorio “N”, alias “El Lastra”, currently imprisoned in the Altiplano penal facility, and with another individual nicknamed “El Rojo,” with whom he allegedly manipulated a bag containing human remains.
Although the case of the Izaguirre ranch has generated great interest, there are still secrets left untold. Recently, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Jalisco has revealed that José Ascensión Murguía, mayor of Teuchitlán, was aware of the existence of this training camp of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). During the first hearing of the mayor, recently detained for organized crime, it became evident that Murguía was aware of the existence and operation of the Izaguirre ranch.
According to the information, it is claimed that the mayor received a salary of 70 thousand pesos for protecting the CJNG and allowing it to act with impunity in the region. He is also accused of knowing about the intervention of the National Guard and the Secretary of National Defense last September. Other accusations indicate that the mayor allowed the operation of the ranch and the passage of CJNG operators aboard vehicles reported stolen, in addition to being aware that recruits were forced to practice cannibalism.
Cannibalism, a common practice within the CJNG, was supervised by Murguía, who was responsible for preventing the escape of recruits attracted by false job offers. Essentially, police surveillance was not to protect those recruited but to keep them within the facilities of the ranch.
