In the Iztapalapa mayor's office, an alleged transaction through social networks ended in an armed robbery, adding to a concerning trend of crimes committed through digital means in recent months. The victim responded to a car sale ad on Facebook Marketplace and went to the meeting point in the Desarrollo Urbano Quetzalcóatl neighborhood. Upon arrival, they were threatened with a firearm, stripped of money and phones, and the assailants escaped on motorcycles.
After the robbery, the swift response of police and C2 Oriente operators allowed the arrest of three individuals, aged 17, 18, and 20, along with a firearm, knives, motorcycles, and the stolen items. According to journalist Carlos Jiménez, the detainees could be linked not only to thefts but also to homicides in Iztapalapa and Tláhuac, identifying them as Orlando Corona, Gabriel López, and Jorge Ortiz.
On his personal account, Jiménez mentioned that these individuals posted fraudulent car ads on Marketplace to commit robberies and possibly murders in dangerous areas. Furthermore, he shared a photo of the detainees on a motorcycle captured by surveillance cameras and a video of their entrance to the Prosecutor's Office after the arrest.
These arrests occur in a context of rising crimes related to online vehicle buy-sell transactions, as warned by the head of the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, at the end of April. In a disseminated video, he offered recommendations to the population to avoid fraud and assaults during such transactions.
