Abraham Dávila Rodríguez, a candidate for minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), is facing civil and criminal complaints filed by his ex-partner, Miriam Alejandra Peraza Astorga. According to the woman, in file 1702/2018, he is accused of negligence in the payment of child support for their two children, as well as influence peddling, according to investigation file 320/2024.
"Intimidated and threatened, telling me to do what I wanted, that he would not pay me a cent, that he even knew the entire prosecutor's office and the entire Judicial Power of the state, that they would never do anything to him," explained Alejandra Peraza Astorga. In light of this situation, she filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office of Jalisco, where the SCJN candidate resides. She has also filed an administrative complaint with the General Secretariat of the Judiciary Council of the State of Jalisco.
Her goal is for the candidate to take responsibility for his civil obligations and if his refusal results in the loss of his candidacy, "then he should face the consequences of his actions," the woman added.
Regarding the eligibility of candidates for the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, the Senate must wait for the results of the judicial elections to determine the validity of the 26 candidacies. Norma de la Cruz Magaña, electoral counselor and member of the Temporary Commission of the Extraordinary Electoral Process for the Election of Various Positions of the Federal Judicial Power, mentioned that if the candidates are linked to criminal investigations or do not meet certain requirements, the upper house could refrain from nominating them.
The upper house has requested the National Electoral Institute (INE) to eliminate the 26 candidates with dark backgrounds, and the INE is expected to respond in its session this Thursday. The electoral counselor emphasized that the INE did not carry out the registrations of the candidates and cannot perform an authoritative act that is outside its competencies.
