Fabiana Estrada seeks transformation in the Judiciary

Fabiana Estrada, a circuit judge with over 25 years of experience in the Federal Judiciary, participated in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva to discuss the judicial reform that led to the judicial election process. According to her, the 2024 reform arose from citizens' distrust towards the Supreme Court and the need to bring it closer to society. She emphasized the importance of everyone's participation in this process and mentioned that she worked in collaboration with former minister and president of the Court, Arturo Zaldívar, whose leadership shaped her vision as a judge.

For Fabiana, judicial elections represent an opportunity for transformation to meet challenges such as practicing the profession with a gender perspective and protecting human rights. Her aspiration is to become a minister of the Court to make this institution more humane and responsive to citizens. She believes that justice should not be disconnected from politics, as it is part of social aspirations.

Estrada seeks to transform the role of minister in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation by following the example of Arturo Zaldívar, with whom she has previously collaborated on judicial reform projects. In 2020, she participated in the project to modify the Judiciary that resulted in the reforms approved in 2021.

With a degree in Law from UNAM and a master's degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, Fabiana Estrada proposes ideas such as building humanistic justice, establishing working groups and inter-institutional forums to identify needs, exchange experiences, and organize hearings with scientific evidence in the Court.
