The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, distanced herself from the statements of Paco Ignacio Taibo II, general director of the Economic Culture Fund, who suggested the possibility of nationalizing the TV station TV Azteca for "national health" reasons. Sheinbaum stated that they do not share Taibo's position and that it is not the intention of the Mexican Government to carry out that measure.

On Sunday, May 4, Taibo II suggested to Morena, the ruling party, to open a debate on the nationalization of Azteca, indicating that it was more about starting a conversation than making a formal proposal. These statements gained relevance amid the discussion about the Telecommunications Law and the tension between the television station, its owner Ricardo Salinas Pliego, and the Government.

Following Taibo II's statement, Salinas responded by disparaging the FCE director on his official account. Amid this controversy, Sheinbaum was clear in stating that there is no censorship in Mexico and that government opponents have freedom of expression. The president emphasized that she does not share the proposal to nationalize TV Azteca, highlighting that they respect the plurality of opinions in the country.
