Two weeks after the tragic murder of a searching mother and her son in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, the State Attorney's Office announced that Juan Manuel “N” and José Luis “N” have been linked to the process for their possible involvement in the crime. A control judge dictated the measure and also imposed preventive detention while the criminal process lasts.
The fatal event took place on the night of April 23, when María del Carmen Morales and her son Jaime Daniel Ramírez were shot while collecting water in a park in the Las Villas neighborhood. Both lost their lives at the scene at the hands of two individuals riding a black and red motorcycle, with plates from Michoacán.
The Attorney's Office reported that, thanks to the Specialized Homicide Investigation Unit and the technological support of the C4 of Tlajomulco, it was possible to identify the alleged attackers and request arrest warrants. Subsequently, the Public Ministry presented charges of femicide and qualified homicide.
The Deputy Attorney General in Specialized Criminal Investigation noted that they are keeping open lines of investigation that could link the accused to at least ten other murders, although no further charges have been officially made at this time.
The murdered mother was part of the search collective “Hearts United for Our Treasures,” made up of relatives of the disappeared in Jalisco. Her tragic death has generated outrage among collectives and human rights organizations, who have denounced the increase in violence against women who search for their loved ones on their own due to the state's lack of action.
Jalisco is one of the entities with the highest number of missing persons in Mexico, with more than 14 thousand registered cases in the state, according to data from the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons. The Attorney's Office reiterated its commitment to work with determination to prevent impunity in cases like this.
