Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the case of businessman Simón Levy is up to the Prosecutor's Office to decide. She emphasized that there is no political background to the detention and rejected the statements that the businessman made yesterday to various media outlets. Sheinbaum also said that it is up to the Prosecutor's Office to explain why the detention only happened now and that the agency followed all protocols. In turn, Interpol stated that it did not arrest Levy because he is a Portuguese citizen, which contradicts the Prosecutor's Office. The president read a document translated from Portuguese stating that citizen Simón 'N' was detained on October 28, 2025, on national territory due to an international arrest warrant and was presented before the court in Lisbon. Sheinbaum recounted that there was a Red Notice against Levy derived from two arrest warrants from the capital's prosecutor's office for two different complaints in 2021 and 2022, one related to an assault on an individual and another about a construction that violated environmental regulations. Sheinbaum, for her part, stated this morning that there was indeed a detention in Portugal and presented a document issued by the authorities of Lisbon itself. As this news outlet reported yesterday, amidst the confusion surrounding the businessman, who is an open opponent of the 4T, federal sources already recognized Levy's situation, who would have been released after confirming that he is a citizen of that country. During her conference, the president revealed exactly this situation. She explained that Levy was released after proving he has citizenship 'in some European country', without specifying which, for which reason he is not extradited either. The saga over the alleged detention of the former official and businessman Simón Levy continues another chapter this Thursday, as President Claudia Sheinbaum insisted that the process did occur, however, she confirmed that he has already been released, as anticipated by LPO. During her press conference, the president was questioned following Levy's statements to various media where he denied having been detained and assured that, on the contrary, he had suffered an assassination attempt against his life in Washington. 'It has nothing to do with political persecution. Personally, I was not aware that there were arrest warrants derived from those events of 2021 and 2022,' she said. 'He was lying when he said he was not in Portugal and was in Washington.'
