Sheinbaum: Homicides in Mexico Down by 37%

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that from September 2024 to October 2025, the number of intentional homicides in the country has decreased by 37%, which averages 32 fewer murders per day. According to her, this is the result of the implementation of the National Security Strategy, which is based on two pillars: addressing the causes of violence, especially among young people, and ensuring zero impunity through strengthening intelligence, investigations, and inter-institutional coordination. The President noted a significant decrease in crime rates in the states of Guanajuato (63%), Tabasco (51%), Baja California (45), State of Mexico (42%), Jalisco (48%), and Nuevo León (75%) compared to the same period last year. In 13 months, 37,000 individuals linked to violence have been detained. In the case of high-impact crimes, the daily average decreased by 46% compared to 2018. The Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa, reported that the national daily average of intentional homicides also decreased by 34% from 2018 to the first 10 months of 2025, falling from 100.5 to 66.1 cases per day. She added that from January to October 2025, seven states accounted for 51% of all intentional homicides: Guanajuato (11.1%), Chihuahua (7.6%), Baja California (7.3%), Sinaloa (7.1%), State of Mexico (6.6%), Guerrero (5.7%), and Michoacán (5.6%). When comparing the periods of January-October 2024 and 2025, 26 states showed a decrease in their daily average of homicides.
