A dialogue table held this Tuesday at the Secretariat of the Interior (Segob) between federal authorities and representatives of peasant and transport organizations reached no agreement. The protesters' representatives walked away from the table after the Undersecretary of the Interior, César Yáñez, asked them to remove the blockades that remain on several highways to continue the negotiation. A video shared by Adrián LeBarón documents the moment of the breakdown:
Eraclio Rodríguez, from the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside, explained to the media that they requested the federal government a formal declaration with the points to which it would commit to responding, but they did not receive a favorable response. The organizations demand greater security, the recognition of agriculture as a matter of national interest, the implementation of guaranteed prices, and the temporary suspension of the discussion of the National Water Law, among other points. The federal government confirmed that on Tuesday, more blockades were registered than on Monday, which —according to them— has caused damage by preventing the passage of ambulances, firefighters, emergency services, and the transport of perishable goods.
In a statement, Segob stated that from the beginning of the meeting, protesters were asked to communicate with their members to allow free transit, avoid greater harm to the population, and advance in the attention of their demands. Undersecretary César Yáñez stated that the Government of Mexico maintains its permanent disposition to dialogue and agreement with all social sectors, prioritizing the well-being of citizens.
