Ernestina Godoy Appointed as Acting Attorney General of Mexico

Ernestina Godoy has been appointed as the acting head of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) following the departure of Alejandro Gertz Manero. Godoy announced that she will assume the 'constitutional responsibility' for leading the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR). She also announced her resignation from her post as Legal Advisor to the President, a position she had held since December 1, 2024. Godoy thanked President Claudia Sheinbaum for her trust and stated that serving the people of Mexico has been one of the greatest challenges and privileges of her career. She emphasized that transforming the country's public life is not just an institutional task but an ethical commitment. Godoy also stated that in accordance with Article 21 of the FGR Law, she has been appointed as head of the Special Prosecutor's Office for Competitive Control. She assumed her new post with the same conviction that has always guided her professional life: to serve the people of Mexico with ethics, firmness, and a deep sense of justice. Thus, the interim attorney general, who will lead the country's main federal investigations, did not clarify the reasons for her resignation as Legal Advisor or her swift appointment, which led to the departure of Cristina Reséndiz Durruty as head of the FECOC, allowing Godoy to lead the FGR.
