Journalist Alejandra Cuevas Morán, who was imprisoned for 528 days on charges brought by Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero, criticized the defense that President Claudia Sheinbaum made for the former prosecutor. Through her social media, Cuevas refuted the position of the federal executive regarding Gertz Manero's performance and labeled the government's attitude in her case and torture as 'complicit.' Cuevas's reaction came after the head of state dismissed press questions about Gertz Manero's management on December 1st, referring to a 'new stage' for the prosecutor in an embassy. 'Alejandro achieved good results as Attorney General; our recognition, one stage ends and another begins,' the president said during her morning press conference on Monday. In contrast, Cuevas Morán rejected the federal government's support for Alejandro Gertz Manero and former Mexico City Attorney Ernestina Godoy, who is currently acting head of the FGR. 'Do you know what 'work' Alejandro Gertz Manero did? He turned the FGR into a personal revenge instrument against my mother over family inheritances [...] Violate all constitutional guarantees to satisfy a private grudge,' Cuevas accused. Regarding President Sheinbaum's comments about a 'new cycle,' Cuevas Morán lamented: 'For Gertz, yes: embassy, honors, impunity. And what about me? [...] I am still without an apology.'
