Internal Disputes in Morena Party Over Iztapalapa Mayor

Iztapalapa's mayor, Aleida Alavez, has sparked discontent in the Morena party by taking leave to attend a UNESCO summit, intensifying the political battle for the mayor's office ahead of the 2027 elections.

Internal Disputes in Morena Party Over Iztapalapa Mayor

Since coming to power, Aleida Alavez has secluded herself within a small group of collaborators and close figures, including her husband, Alejandro Ojeda, and Mucio Hernández himself. This has led to ruptures with sectors that supported her during the electoral campaign. This has caused discontent among some figures in Morena, who criticize the mayor for taking a week's leave to attend an event that could be replicated with the involved actors on the streets of the borough during the vote to be held at the international organization. As a result, the ruling party anticipates that these sectors will attempt to return to the mayor's office in 2027, where they will clash with Aleida Alavez, who aspires to a second term. These differences are already creating scenarios of disputes for the 2027 elections. As reported by LPO, Morena does not rule out that, if unable to run for a second term, Aleida Alavez might leave the 'guinda' party and join the Green Party, either herself or a figure from her team. 'Most people don't even know what they are voting for, when, or for what,' a local figure from the mayor's office assured LPO. After failing to appear, Tabe sought a working table with Donceles, but Morena rejected it. The internal disputes in the 4T for the Iztapalapa mayor's office have existed for some time. This could complicate the scenario for the 4T, which is not willing to lose the mayor's office with the largest population and the biggest budget in the entire capital. With almost two years until the elections, different political groups are already emerging to compete for the mayor's office. In the 2027 midterm elections, the Iztapalapa mayor's office will be one of the most contested by various Morena groups that aspire to govern it. In addition to Aleida Alavez, there is federal deputy Dolores Padierna, who supported her in her last campaign; her colleague in the legislature, Gabriel García; and local deputy Martha Ávila, who is one of the closest figures to the current head of government, Clara Brugada. As detailed by LPO, the sectors that answer to the head of government, Clara Brugada, view the mayor with distrust, as she never belonged to her team. 'Why doesn't she better hold an event with the people here in Iztapalapa?' Despite being almost two years away from these elections, the internal tensions within the 4T are already beginning to surface. This Thursday, discontent grew within the 'guinda' party towards the mayor, Aleida Alavez, who requested a week's leave to attend a UNESCO summit where a vote will be held on the possible incorporation of the local Passion of Christ into the World Heritage list. Through a formal document, the former federal deputy requested leave from December 7 to 15 to attend, as she explained, the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, where 'The Representation of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ in Iztapalapa' will be approved as part of the world list. Furthermore, she confirmed that she will be replaced in her post by one of her most trusted men, the current General Director of Government and Citizen Protection, Mucio Israel Hernández Guerrero.
