In an official statement, authorities confirmed that the detained criminal group leader has no ties to unions or political actors. Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) Omar García Harfuch detailed in a press conference that this criminal cell operates in the states of Durango, Coahuila, and Chihuahua, where it has systematically threatened and extorted “merchants, ranchers, and producers in the region”. He added that the criminal leader, identified as Edgar 'N', alias 'El Limones', is in preventive prison by order of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and is being investigated for his alleged participation in weapons and drug trafficking crimes. However, García Harfuch specified that the FGR, headed by Ernestina Godoy, is about to obtain other arrest warrants for the crimes of aggravated extortion, kidnapping, money laundering, card cloning, fraud, and forced disappearance. “Additionally, an arrest warrant for aggravated extortion has been issued by the Coahuila Prosecutor's Office”. Related to this detention, he pointed out, five properties were searched in Durango and Coahuila, where drugs and weapons were seized, and five other people were apprehended: Guillermo 'N', Alexis Mauricio 'N', Ángel Rodrigo 'N', Juan José 'N', and José Jean Carlo 'N'. Furthermore, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) of the Treasury Secretariat blocked several accounts of the 'inner circle' of Edgar 'N', whose details will be announced soon, the official said. “These actions represent a direct blow to the operational and financial structure of this criminal group, weakening its operational capacity and reducing its margin of violence in the region,” the official stated. On the other hand, the official reported that as part of the National Strategy against Extortion in the La Laguna region (northern Mexico), 19 more detentions have been made, without giving further details. The crime of extortion has increased by 23.1% in Mexico, between September 2024 and November 2025, the first 14 months of President Claudia Sheinbaum, according to the Security Cabinet reported last Tuesday, with preliminary figures. In the same period, 38,700 people have been detained for high-impact crimes, and 311 tons of drugs have been seized, according to the government report. Michoacán Operation In a conference, García Harfuch reported on transfers of inmates in the Michoacán prison system, to strengthen the security of the state's penitentiary system. He stated that the operation represented the transfer of 25 people deprived of liberty from Michoacán CERESOS to federal penitentiary centers. He affirmed that those involved “exhibited negative leadership behaviors, incitement to disorders, active criminal ties, and the economic capacity to corrupt personnel, in addition to representing a risk to the stability of state penitentiary centers”. These 25 people were transferred by air to four federal prisons:• To the CEFERESO in Durango• To the CEFERESO in Nayarit• To the CEFERESO in Coahuila• To the CEFERESO in VeracruzWith information from the EFE agency. The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of Mexico, Omar García Harfuch, affirmed this Sunday that the detention of 'El Limones', a criminal leader in Durango, represented a 'direct blow' to the structure of the 'Los Cabrera' criminal cell, dedicated to extorting merchants and ranchers, and linked to the Sinaloa Cartel. Questioned about versions of a possible relationship between the detainee and the Morena deputy Pedro Haces and his union CATEM, García Harfuch denied that there is evidence of this at the moment, but affirmed that the investigations continue. Minutes after the conference, the union leader said on his social networks that García Harfuch 'disassociated' 'El Limones' from CATEM and from political actors. García Harfuch, head of the SSPC, disassociates CATEM and political actors from the ongoing investigation into 'El Limones'.
