The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) confirmed that it has renewed the fleet of vehicles assigned to the new ministers, who took office in 2025 following the first judicial elections. In an official statement, the highest court reported that this involves nine units. According to official information, technical opinions were requested from 'federal authorities' before the purchase, which led to the conclusion that the existing vehicles no longer met 'adequate safety standards,' making their continued operation a risk. The Court stated that the purchase is based on criteria of 'prevention and institutional security, not discretionary considerations.' The Jeep Cherokee SUV now used by the ministers has an initial cost of one million pesos, but the price can increase depending on the amenities, internal finishes, and level of armor included. The Court's official position is that the process respected the regulations stipulating that such vehicles, for security reasons and due to the service they provide, must be periodically renewed—every four years or sooner, if the vehicle's condition is unsafe—to ensure adequate operational and safety conditions. To avoid greater expenses for the institution, this acquisition was carried out in parallel with the process of decommissioning a larger vehicle fleet. Through this, the SCJN reaffirms its commitment to responsible public spending management and the rational use of resources, without compromising security conditions for the exercise of its functions.
