Tabasco native Adán Augusto López Hernández has stepped down as the coordinator of the Morena party in the Mexican Senate. His successor praised López's contribution to the fulfillment of 'Plan C' and achieving a qualified majority.

Adán Augusto López Hernández Steps Down as Morena's Senate Coordinator

As this editorial anticipated last October, Tabasco native Adán Augusto López Hernández left the coordination of Morena in the Senate, although he informed that he will not leave the caucus, which will now be headed by the Poblano Ignacio Mier Velazco, also president of the Board of Political Coordination of the Upper House. «Without a doubt, the fulfillment of Plan C would not have been possible without the talent and political skill of Adán Augusto,» declared Mier, who until this day served as vice-coordinator of the caucus. «My total and absolute recognition to the work done by my partner and friend @adan_augusto, he returns to the territory to grow and consolidate our movement. I thank my colleagues in the Parliamentary Group for their trust and support to elect me as...». «I am one more soldier of the Fourth Transformation, and therefore, I will be doing legislative work on the days that I correspond to be, but I will also be doing territorial work, which requires all our effort, our dedication, our commitment,» he said. «And I will never fail this movement, I have always been there when I have been required, and I will continue to do so,» added López Hernández. In a press conference prior to the General Congress session for the opening of the Second Ordinary Period of the Second Year of the LXVI Legislature, the Tabasco native affirmed that as a professional politician he has assumed different challenges throughout his career and that his task at the head of the parliamentary group was fulfilled by consolidating a qualified majority, strengthening internal unity, and moving forward what became known as Plan C. «I have made the decision to step down from the coordination of the parliamentary group and since I am a professional politician who likes to take on challenges, we fulfilled some of the tasks we had been entrusted with,» said the former governor of Tabasco. Involved in a series of scandals, among other things for his alleged link with Hernán Bermúdez Requena and the La Barredora criminal group, Adán Augusto López clarified that he is not leaving the Senate or going to be an ambassador, as speculated since last year about the Embassy of Mexico in France. Gertz Manero was sworn in as the new ambassador to the United Kingdom. Finally, he assured that the request to leave the coordination of Morena in the Senate was consulted with his colleagues, and that he «spoke with whom he had to speak» about his departure, although he did not answer if he discussed the matter with President Claudia Sheinbaum. Taking the floor, Mier Velazco publicly recognized the work of López Hernández, highlighting his political skill and negotiation skills, key factors to achieve the qualified majority that allowed fulfilling Morena's electoral mandate.
