Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández announced his departure as coordinator of the Morena parliamentary group in the Senate of the Republic, a position he has held since the beginning of the legislative session. His goal is to focus on political and electoral tasks leading up to the 2027 elections. López Hernández clarified that he is not leaving his senate seat or assuming a diplomatic role, but will continue as a senator while doing territorial work, particularly in the fourth electoral constituency, considered the most populous in the country for midterm federal elections. "This is a decision I made in recent hours when the possibility arose to undertake political and electoral work in 2027," stated López Hernández. "Now it is time for something that requires full-time dedication to strengthen unity within the movement," he affirmed. The former coordinator explained that his cycle leading the group concluded after fulfilling the legislative objectives set at the beginning of the Legislature, including building a qualified majority with allies—the Labor Party and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico—as well as the approval of the so-called Plan C and the Judicial Reform. He noted that the decision was previously discussed with the relevant internal actors and subsequently presented to his colleagues in the group. "I spoke with whom I needed to speak about these matters, and now I have asked my colleagues to accept my resignation from my post," said López Hernández. The new coordinator, Ignacio Mier Velasco, publicly recognized the work of his predecessor and stated that this stage concluded with the achieved legislative results. In this regard, he pointed out that a new phase is now opening, focused on the discussion of the political-electoral reform being worked on by the Secretariat of the Interior and a presidential commission. Mier explained that the key axes of the electoral reform include reducing the costs of electoral processes, strengthening the autonomy of the National Electoral Institute, the oversight of resources, and the review of proportional representation in legislative bodies. These topics, he said, must be discussed with political allies before advancing in committees and in the plenary session. When questioned if López Hernández's departure reflects an internal rupture in Morena, Mier was emphatic in stating that internal diversity does not imply a rupture, but a natural process within a broad movement: "A movement is the opposite of something static... everyone pointing in the same direction: the transformation of Mexico."
