Billboards for opposition candidate cause tensions in Mexico City

The appearance of billboards supporting Priscila Vera in Coyoacán has surprised and created tension among opposition circles, as she lacks the support of local leaders and her campaign could strengthen the ruling party's position.

Billboards for opposition candidate cause tensions in Mexico City

In Mexico City's Coyoacán district, new billboards have appeared in support of Priscila Vera, the Secretary of the Environment for the PAN's National Executive Committee (CEN). This move is seen as the launch of her personal campaign for the 2030 elections, although the party has not yet officially nominated her. This campaign launch has surprised local PAN leadership, as Vera does not have good relations with key figures in the district, such as federal deputy Ricardo Rubio and Mayor Giovani Gutiérrez. The problem is that the political territory in Coyoacán is already dominated by these leaders, who do not support Vera's candidacy. Furthermore, Mayor Gutiérrez, who cannot run in the upcoming elections, has stated he will have a say in the candidate selection process, and Priscila Vera is not among his possibilities. This situation could awaken tensions and divisions within the opposition, potentially boosting the electoral chances of the 'Fourth Transformation' (4T), which still has not defined its strategy for the district but dreams of winning it back in 2027.
