The Business Coordinating Council of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX) urged authorities and companies to guarantee the security of people and workplaces in regions affected by recent violent incidents. In a statement, the confederation called on authorities to “protect and safeguard thoroughfares, roads, businesses, and establishments that allow for mobility, exchange, and the economic activity of the region.” The confederation also recognized the work of the Armed Forces, the Security Cabinet, and the three levels of government. COPARMEX's call comes after a wave of violence that broke out this Sunday in several states following the killing of Rubén Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Blockades, vehicle fires, and armed confrontations affected roads and urban areas, triggering a maximum security alert. The confederation urged authorities to reinforce institutional presence and apply preventive actions to protect the population and minimize the economic impact. Additionally, it indicated that companies must evaluate their operations based on official information and the reality of each locality. Let us act with prudence and flexibility, at all times prioritizing the integrity of collaborators and following the instructions of the authorities. The business organization emphasized that stability and free transit are essential to maintaining confidence, investment, and employment. “We trust that peace and security will soon be restored in the different regions of the country affected, so that people can resume their daily lives and workplaces can function normally,” the organization pointed out. Today more than ever, we must take care of our country's progress and watch over its reputation, it added. The organization also reiterated its commitment to legality, justice, and institutional strengthening, stating that security is an essential pillar for the country's economic and social development. Finally, COPARMEX expressed confidence that peace and normality will soon be restored in the affected regions, allowing citizens to resume their daily lives and workplaces to operate without restrictions.
