Journalist specializing in organized crime Ioan Grillo stated that the decision not to take Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), alive was made by Mexican authorities. 'The decision that he was not going to arrive alive was taken in Mexico,' the journalist pointed out in a special program on Aristegui Vivo this Sunday. He added that 'El Mencho' killed many people, and the attack on Omar García Harfuch in Mexico City also led to many people saying he should die. 'Furthermore, they put it out there that he cannot attack and kill generals. So, there are many factors that lead to this,' he said. He sadly noted that 'Mexico with this violence is living a poor war, and there is not going to be a lot of people complaining if it was the fact that the soldiers finished him off in the transport,' referring to the Mexican Army's version that the capo died during his air transfer to Mexico City. Regarding 'El Mencho's' knowledge of the cartel's operations and the associated corruption, Grillo explained what a judicial process against him might have meant: 'It is possible if he was threatening the government with 'I have things and I am going to say that, I am going to put this video' or things like that. It is strange, isn't it? So it generates a lot of news, but when we talk about ten years ago, when they captured 'Chapo,' when they took out 'Mayo,' and now 'El Mencho,' and then it will be Iván [Archivaldo], and it keeps going, that it does not remove this problem.' He also referred to the blockades unleashed in at least 20 entities after the news of the CJNG leader's demise broke, and how they reflect a tactic that has grown over the years and a strong power of action by the organizations that directly affects society, preventing children from attending classes or adults from going to work. 'We hope that in the future, at one time or another, this war has to end, but it is not today yet,' the journalist concluded.
