Mexico Investigates Four Possible Successors to El Mencho at the Head of the Jalisco Cartel

The Mexican government reported that Sunday's clashes left 25 members of the National Guard and over 30 members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) dead, most of them in the state of Jalisco (west). Additionally, road blockages and the burning of gas stations, vehicles, and commercial establishments were recorded. Mencho, 59, was one of the most wanted criminals by Mexican and US authorities, with a million-dollar bounty for information leading to his capture. According to Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, the country's situation is now "normalized." "There has been no resurgence in violence. As we can see, Sunday—the day of the operation in which Mencho was killed—was when the most problems occurred. The next day, things began to normalize."
