The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, reported that the Mexican government maintains permanent monitoring of the situation of its nationals in the Middle East, following the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran and Tehran's response with missile launches against several countries in the region. According to the official, there are currently approximately seven thousand nationals in the area, most of them tourists or people in transit. In this context, he reiterated that, despite the complexity of the scenario, “all of them are safe and sound” and remain in contact with diplomatic representations. He also recalled Mexico's international stance on the conflict, emphasizing the search for dialogue and the diplomatic path to achieve agreements that allow hostilities to cease as soon as possible, by stressing that Mexico is “a pacifist country” that, based on its constitutional principles, advocates for the “peaceful settlement of disputes.” He assured that the embassies continue to operate permanently and focused on the protection of Mexican citizens in the area, reiterating that their main priority is “the safety of our nationals.” Since Saturday, Israeli and US forces have carried out attacks at various points in Iran, including Tehran, while Iran responded with offensives against Israeli territory and US military bases in the region. However, he noted that the closure of most airspace has complicated return transfers, so alternative evacuation protocols have been activated that foresee land and sea routes, prioritizing safety conditions. The chancellor added that the president instructed the Foreign Ministry to concentrate efforts on monitoring the situation of Mexicans in the region. He indicated that, to date, all are in safe conditions and with no incident reports. “There is not a single report of any of them having suffered any aggression to their physical integrity,” he stated in a video disseminated on social networks. The chancellor assured that on Sunday he held a working meeting with ambassadors from Middle Eastern countries, on the orders of President Claudia Sheinbaum. He explained that the meeting was held with the heads of diplomatic representations in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, and Qatar, with the objective of directly knowing the local conditions and the situation of Mexicans in the area. He detailed that the Mexican embassies maintain constant communication with citizens and continue to provide consular assistance. To date, Iranian attacks have been recorded in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, countries that house US military installations.
