Mexican Political Battle: Durazo vs. Augusto

Tension is rising in Mexico between key political figures. Sonora's governor, Alfonso Durazo, seems to be gaining support to lead elections, which displeases Senator Adán Augusto. The article analyzes their ambitions, influence on the Morena party, and the upcoming 2027 elections.

Mexican Political Battle: Durazo vs. Augusto

Since January, a comment has been gaining strength in the officialdom: the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, could be designated by Claudia Sheinbaum as the head of those in charge of territorial elections for next year. 'Alfonso pays for Colosio's polls and wants to manage Morena's elections,' he tells his associates. Another issue pointed out by the senator has to do with the fate of Andy López Beltrán: as secretary of Morena, he should be the one to assume the role that the Sonoran intends. Durazo wants to play hard in 2027 because he is convinced that the political situation has changed since the operation against Nemesio Oceguera Cervantes: presidential approval has improved, he estimates that there will be less pressure from the United States, and he assumes that the opposition is unresponsive. Adán Augusto, for his part, is beginning to get involved in CDMX and has intensified his exchanges with Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña to carry out actions in the capital. Regarding Chihuahua, on the other hand, it looks more distant, and the last few times Senator Andrea Chávez wanted to talk to him about electoral plans, the former Bucareli strongman asked her to focus on managing her upcoming wedding. A distance that extends to advisor Abraham Mendieta, who is already seeking new horizons given the thesis that the Chihuahua project is now on standby. A kind of consolation prize after being refused a designation in Segob. The news is not pleasing to those already designated, but the most annoyed, for now, is Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández, elected operational head of the fourth constituency, which includes CDMX. The senator's doubts have their logic: he alleges that while Durazo seeks to climb in the officialdom, he is also the great promoter of Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio's entry into the Sonora electoral arena. In his dealings, he obviously speaks very badly of Adán Augusto, almost as a necessary vehicle to penetrate other latitudes of the official constellation.
