Morena Approves Rules for 2027 Elections, Prioritizing Unity

The National Council of Morena unanimously approved the internal rules that will govern candidacies for the 2027 elections. The central theme of these rules is 'unity'. 'In Morena, we have the right to aspire to any public office, but we all must understand that the project comes above any personal aspiration,' stated the party's national president, Luisa María Alcalde. The initiative aims to strengthen democracy through measures such as eliminating 'dedazo' (political appointments) in proportional representation, reducing public party funding, expanding citizen participation mechanisms, reinforcing oversight, and recognizing the migrant vote. The Council called on its allies, the Labor Party (PT) and the Ecologist Green Party (PVEM), to maintain coalition cohesion. The session, attended by 287 participants, resulted in strategic agreements on the party's internal organization and electoral preparation. Candidate nominations will be defined between June and November. Each state will be able to present up to six aspirants—three women and three men. The process will involve two internal surveys: the first to identify the most well-known profiles and the second to determine the final candidate. The holding of mass events, early campaigning, or the dissemination of false information is also prohibited. Governor of Sonora and President of the National Council of Morena, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, emphasized: 'At this moment, ambiguities cannot be allowed. Unity is not a luxury but a strategic condition to successfully face the demanding electoral horizon of 2027'.
