Coordinator of the Green Party's parliamentary group, Manuel Velasco Coello, stated that everyone has the right to decide, as reported in media interviews. This concerns the cases of Waldo Fernández, Maki Ortiz, Rocío Nakamura, and Alfonso Silva, who joined as part of Morena but switched to the Green Party's bench to allow it to grow, gain presidencies in commissions, and secure a place in the directive board. Rocío Nakamura and Alfonso Silva have already expressed their support for the electoral reform as proposed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Velasco added that although a disagreement remains on a small part of the initiative, related to proportional representation and party financing, "there is still room for reflection, we have permanent communication with the Secretary of the Interior and we seek agreements." Regarding the electoral reform, Brugada calls on the Green Party and PT to "listen to the people." He also pointed out that despite the disputes over this initiative, "at this moment the Morena-Green-PT alliance holds and we hope it continues." On the other hand, the Chiapas native asked Morena to include Green Party aspirants in the polls to define the candidates for governor for the 2027 elections. "We learned through the media that they [Morena] have already defined the dates of how the method to choose their representatives will be, and all we have proposed is that the method they have chosen be through polls, so that our comrades [from the Green Party] can participate in these polls, and if they win, their project is respected and they can lead it, if they don't win the poll, then not," he said. "And those who wish to be in the Green Party are welcome, and those who don't, it is their decision. I cannot speak for third parties." In the midst of the tension over the Electoral Reform and the risk that Morena will withdraw the senators it "lent" from the Green Party's bench, its coordinator Manuel Velasco warned that it is up to each legislator to decide whether to remain in the parliamentary groups, in case this faction votes against the electoral reform.
Velasco Coello: Decision on Party Affiliation is Up to Each Senator
Green Party coordinator Manuel Velasco commented on the senators' defection from Morena, stating each legislator decides their own group. He also called for including Green candidates in polls and expressed hope for the alliance with Morena to continue.
