President Claudia Sheinbaum rejected on Wednesday having participated in the appointment of the new Federation auditor, Aureliano Hernández, although she celebrated his appointment, assuring that progress will be made against corruption. "Yesterday, I understand that all parties voted for him and that's good," the president responded when questioned about the matter during her conference at the National Palace. The appointment of Hernández immediately drew attention due to his closeness to Sheinbaum, and as reported previously, his appointment was gestated a couple of weeks ago in a meeting considering his loyalty to the president's group and the need in the Palace to balance the influence of Raquel Buenrostro. "It depends on the legislators as to how they are going to vote, but we fulfilled our part and that is very important," the president said this morning prior to the vote in the Plenary. "The ASF is a strategic place and it is now ours, now we have to finish controlling Morena," Morena sources told this editorial. The issue was addressed quickly and almost at the end of this morning's morning briefing, however, Sheinbaum showed satisfaction with the new auditor, as she expressed that it closes the pincer on progress in the sanctioning of corruption by adding the Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and other dependencies, as well as the Justice Tribunal and the prosecutor's offices. "Now that the new authorities are in place, let them meet and that they have to modify laws - to strengthen anti-corruption strategies- that initiatives for modification are presented," the president said. For the president, the appointment of the new head of the ASF is assumed as a triumph at a moment of maximum tension in the Congress, where the vote on the electoral reform looks more than divided and with high chances of ending in shipwreck. The president seeks to eradicate the idea of failure and insists on the discourse that her "triumph" is having fulfilled a campaign commitment before a citizen demand centered on economic resources and that all legislators are elected. "I did not participate in the decision, that is very important. Although she warned that depending on that result she may present other initiatives on the matter, without offering more details.
