Minister Lenia Batres confirmed that she will assume the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in 2027, after the conclusion of Hugo Aguilar Ortiz's term, which is in effect until September 1 of next year. In a message shared on social media, Batres Guadarrama emphasized that her work focuses on complying with and enforcing the Constitution, and rejected that her appointment represents a risk to private investment. Batres explained that the Court is a collegiate body and that its actions seek to guarantee protection and stimulus for economic investment, backed by norms that offer legal certainty to entrepreneurs. "Journalists from the right, in synchronized swimming, claim that I pose a danger to private investment and, in a coup-making mood, call for preventing me from presiding over the Court," stated the self-proclaimed "minister of the people" on her social networks. Regarding the succession process, the judge recalled that the Constitution establishes a rotating procedure based on the number of votes obtained in the judicial election. In the last vote, Batres reached 5 million 674 thousand 113 votes, surpassing other candidates and securing her tenure on the Court until 2029. Currently, Aguilar Ortiz presides over the court with 6 million 5 thousand 181 votes, the highest figure in the 2025 election. New scandal in the Court: accused of buying robes for 300,000 pesos. In another relevant ruling, the Court ratified on March 12 of last year the articles of the Federal Economic Competition Law that sanction monopolistic practices in the corn tortilla industry. It also questioned critical media, whom it accused of promoting a "coup-making mood" in the statements aimed at preventing her from taking the presidency. The decision, derived from the Amparo in Review 537/2025, confirmed the validity of the investigations of the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece), which had detected price fixing and sales restriction in a company in Huixtla, Chiapas. Among the measures applied, the Court approved the disqualification of a business representative and the imposition of economic sanctions on the involved company, thus strengthening the legal framework to prevent price manipulation and ensure competition in the food sector. Journalists from the right, in synchronized swimming, claim that I pose a danger to private investment and, in a coup-making mood, call for preventing me from presiding over the Court. In this regard, I clarify the following: My obligation is to comply and enforce the Mexican Constitution.
