INE Counselors Disavow Official Reform Document

Seven INE counselors disavow a document with observations on the presidential 'Plan B' reform, stating it does not reflect the institution's position and reaffirming their openness to dialogue.

INE Counselors Disavow Official Reform Document

Seven of the eleven elected counselors of the National Electoral Institute (INE) issued a statement to disavow a document sent in the name of the INE with observations to the 'Plan B', which corresponds to the electoral reform sent by President Claudia Sheinbaum to the Senate of the Republic. The existence of the document has been discussed in columns and media spaces. El Universal published that the president of the INE board, Guadalupe Taddei, 'stood up' senators who were waiting to learn the institution's view on the proposed changes: 'Ms. Guadalupe chose to send a letter to the Senate with the observations to the Plan B project'. The Sacapuntas column in El Heraldo says: 'The INE counselors, led by Guadalupe Taddei, left waiting the senators from the committees reviewing the Plan B. Instead, they sent a document with the body's proposals on the presidential reform'. The same version is included in columns by Alberto Aguirre and Francisco Garfias. This Tuesday, seven counselors issued a statement to disavow such a document, since the General Board of the INE 'has not issued observations or proposals regarding the reform initiative known as "Plan B"'. We are aware that various media outlets have reported the alleged delivery of a document attributed to the INE. We are completely unaware of its origin, content, and the circumstances of its alleged delivery, so said material does not reflect or represent an institutional position. The Counselorships reiterate our openness to dialogue and willingness to contribute technical expertise for the eventual electoral reform. The electoral officials indicated that, due to scheduling reasons, they could not attend. Consequently, we will attend to any request or call that is made to us through the corresponding institutional channels. The document is signed by Arturo Castillo Loza, Carla Humphrey Jordan, Martín Faz Mora, Rita Bell López Vences, Jaime Rivera Velázquez, Dania Ravel Cuevas, and Claudia Zavala Pérez. The new conflict comes a few weeks before the term of Dania Ravel, Claudia Zavala, and Jaime Rivera ends.
