Juan Pablo Becerra-Acosta Molina, director of the Gaceta UNAM, publicly acknowledged the mistake and assumed direct responsibility in a message posted on his personal X account. He explained that the cover originally included the term “desgarradores”, but he suggested changing it to “desolladores”. However, when making the change to uppercase, the final error was made. “The error was entirely mine (…) I committed the unforgivable blunder,” he wrote. “The General Director of Social Communication of @UNAM_MX, @MauricioLopezV, and I have spoken during these hours and he decided that I will continue as Director of @Gaceta_UNAM, which I appreciate and thank him for,” Becerra-Acosta noted, also committing to strengthen all editorial processes to maintain and… Initially, the journalist reported that he had submitted his resignation, arguing that it was a serious lapse in journalistic practice: “it is not an error attributable to the University (…) it is a mistake entirely mine”. However, a day later, he announced that the General Director of Social Communication of UNAM, Mauricio López Velázquez, had decided that he would continue at the helm of the publication. “He decided that I will continue as Director of Gaceta UNAM, which I appreciate and thank him for,” said Becerra-Acosta, who also committed to reinforce the editorial processes to avoid future failures.
