The Government of Mexico has requested an urgent and thorough clarification of the facts. It also promised to use all legal avenues for these cases to be sanctioned and not repeated.

Over 1,800 Mexicans have been detained for migration in the US. Consul Carlos Martínez informed that the relationship between immigration authorities and the families of detainees is practically non-existent, so the consulate conducts visits to verify the detention conditions of migrants, identifies medical needs, ensures access to clear information about their situation, and contacts and accompanies relatives.

In addition, legal assistance is coordinated and "emotionally complex" processes that families may go through are accompanied.

Since June 2025, when raids on migrants began in the US, 1,809 interviews have been conducted with Mexicans detained in Los Angeles. It is highlighted that 92% are men of working age.

The Government of Mexico joined the lawsuit against the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) service due to the death of 14 Mexicans in custody, reported authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a press conference held at the Los Angeles consulate.

"As instructed by the President, the Government of Mexico will join as a friend of the court, through the amicus curiae figure, in the class action lawsuit against ICE, which was filed on January 26 of this year in the Central District Court of California, related to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Detention and Processing Center."

"This class action seeks to represent all persons detained or who could be confined in this center, as well as to denounce systematic confinement conditions that may constitute violations of international and legal standards applicable to persons under immigration custody," reported Vanesa Calva Ruiz, General Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consultative Protection Office.

The lawsuit was brought by four individuals detained in that center, and was supported by organizations, including Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Immigration Rights, among others.

"It is brought against ICE authorities as responsible for the custody conditions in said center, even though the logistical conditions are in charge of a private company".

She commented that of the 14 cases of Mexicans killed by ICE, four have occurred in the Adelanto, San Bernardino center, due to alleged health complications, which reflects a "pattern of structural deficiencies".

The most recent case was that of Mr. José Guadalupe, who died last week in Adelanto.

"The official cause of death has not been determined, this case is under active consular follow-up."
