Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed the change in leadership at the National Customs Agency. Rafael Marín, who served as director, left his post as planned after one year in office. Marín will be sent to the state of Yucatán, where he will assume duties as a delegate for Programs for Well-being or within the Secretariat of the Interior. Sheinbaum rejected suggestions that the change was due to electoral reasons or poor management, stating on the contrary that Marín had done an extraordinary job. He will be succeeded by Héctor Alonso Romero Gutiérrez, who was head of the Agency for Digital Transformation. In 2025, under Marín's leadership, the country increased its customs revenue by a real 15.5%, even though total operations at these facilities decreased by 2.3%. In another key announcement, Mexicana's General Director Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez announced the expansion of routes and an increase in flights ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The airline plans to expand its fleet from five aircraft in 2025 to 20 by the end of 2027. For the upcoming Holy Week season, Mexicana will increase its flights by 35% compared to last year, adding 42 additional operations between March 27 and April 13. New routes are also planned, including a connection from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to Acapulco.
