Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the appointment of Héctor Alonso Romero Gutiérrez as the new head of the National Customs Agency (ANAM). Romero Gutiérrez, who has been the head of the technical support unit at the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) since 2023, is not new to public service. He previously held positions at the Energy Regulatory Commission and in the private sector. His predecessor, Rafael Marín Mollinedo, leaves behind significant challenges, primarily allegations of corruption that enabled fuel smuggling. A notable case involved the former head of Customs Investigations, who allegedly purchased a 7.7 million peso watch collection despite his official salary not supporting such an expense. Sheinbaum also stated that Mollinedo will be appointed as a delegate in Yucatán.
