The Romance Between the Mexican President and 'La Tigresa'

In the late 1960s, a rumor began to gain momentum in Mexico: actress Irma Serrano, known as 'La Tigresa', was having an affair with then-President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz. In her memoirs, 'A Calzón Quitado' and 'A Calzón Amarrado', Serrano recounts that she met Díaz Ordaz at a political event. She described him as a decisive and stubborn man, much like herself. Serrano stated that the president was very generous and never asked her to keep their romance a secret, even gifting her a house in the Pedregal de San Ángel. She claimed she fell in love with him for his intellect, not his looks. The relationship lasted for over five years. However, the affair ended after a dispute, which Serrano said was partly related to the president's wife. In protest, she serenaded the couple living at the Los Pinos residence. Díaz Ordaz came out to thank her, but Serrano slapped him, knocking his glasses off. Although this incident marked the end of the romance, they later reconciled via a phone call. Previously, Los Pinos had been the official residence of the presidents of Mexico and hosted events, including serenades.
